  • Staff, parents, and community will foster a love of learning and a positive self-esteem in every child.

School History:

The Lockhart Elementary School of today with its five buildings, campus-like atmosphere and covered walkways is a far cry from the original school built back in early 1940's.  The original school, which was located adjacent to the present gymnasium, housed students in grades one through seven.  Over the years the school changed from being a 1-7 school to a high school, to a junior high school and then to being a third through fifth grade school.  Only recently since 1998 has it housed students in grades Kindergarten through five.

The name Lockhart came from the name of a Mr. Lockhart who was the major contributor of funds from which the original school was built back in the early 40's.   During those days schools were built from contributions from members of the community instead of from the county.  County-wide organization of the schools came at a later date.
